Common on every shootWe build it in, run it and support it
Every word of your shoot, in one place
The Sound Group exists to bring Common to every shoot. Common is the system we built on our own shoots, and we're the crew that puts it to work on yours.
Common turns every microphone into a TimeScript: every word transcribed, named and locked to camera timecode, from the first plan to the final cut. The scenes and beats your producers plan before the shoot become what Common listens for on location, and what it hands to the edit the moment a scene ends.
Common live: the story beats on the left, the conversation on the right.

What The Sound Group does
1.1
Build it into your production
Every deployment starts from Common's core and is shaped around your show: your protocols, your formats and paperwork, the way your team already works.
1.2
Build the rig
We supply the hardware and build the rig, from a single bag to a house full of fixed rig, so every mic reaches Common.
1.3
Run it on location
We manage the software on location, map the locations and place the room mics before you roll.
1.4
A technician with your team
Someone on site the whole time who knows the rig and Common inside out. No other production software comes with an expert in the room.
The Sound Group is headed up by Tom Moore and Patrick Calvert. We're sound recordists and mixers with years on location across broadcast television: fixed rig houses, road trips abroad, studio formats and single-camera documentary.
We only work with the best sound recordists in the business, people with years in the field across all kinds of non-fiction television.
The right crew for every job, because we build the technology
We're a sound company built on pushing technology forward, and putting it to work to make life on set easier for producers and crews.
We don't just run the rigs, we build the technology behind them. Common, our own system, came out of our shoots, so every crew we send knows how to get every word of your shoot to the people who need it.
4.1
Complex RF, handled
Full frequency coordination for dense multi-channel RF, from a single bag to large multi-room builds. RF over fibre puts antennas exactly where coverage is needed, with the spectrum watched through the shoot.
4.2
Sound Devices Astral
Digital wireless that records in every transmitter, alongside the radio path, so there's always a backup and the shoot can move between rig, bag and run-and-gun without losing a word.
4.3
Audio over IP
We build Dante audio-over-IP networks with redundant paths, so any mic can reach any recorder, gallery or listener.
4.4
Timecode and sync
Every recorder, transmitter and camera locked to a single timecode reference, so everything lands on the frame in the edit.
4.5
Listen to anyone, anywhere
Our own in-house wireless monitoring: channels streamed to producer handsets, on the rig or off it, so producers listen to whoever they want, wherever they are.
4.6
Our own kit, kept in our own hands
We supply and maintain all of our own equipment, so it arrives tested and ready.
4.7
A technician with you at all times
Someone on site who knows the rig and Common inside out, ready the moment you need them.
